Springtime Home Maintenance

Spring has finally arrived and it’s actually warm enough to get outside again. You have probably heard of winterizing your home, but do you have a plan for springtime maintenance?

Your roof has taken the brunt of winter via ice storms, heavy snow, and perhaps even fallen branches. Now is the time to assess the status of your roof. While you can take a ladder and do some research yourself, it’s a great time to consult a roofing contractors to come give an assessment.

While you’re up there, check your gutters for debris and leaks before the springtime rain comes. Improper drainage can lead to water in the basement and wood rot. Make sure downspouts are facing away from your home and clear bushes that can lead to standing water. While you’re at it, make sure than the ground surrounding your home is graded to slope away from your house.

Prevent Damage Before It Starts

Power wash and seal the garage, walkways and sidewalks to prevent future cracking. Fill cracks with caulking to prevent them from spreading. For larger cracks, especially around the foundation, consult an expert.

Check outside faucets for damage from the freezing temperatures. If you can stop the pressure with just your thumb, you might have a cracked or leaking pipe. Assessing hoses for cracks will make watering your line less of a hassle when it’s time.

Service your air conditioning unit and have your air ducts cleaned out if necessary. Change all interior filters regularly to keep cut down on dust and improve air quality. You don’t want to be stuck without AC on an unexpected hot day.
